Position: Non-exempt, $21-23 per hour, DOE; 40 hours per week, reporting to Executive Director.  Open until filled.

Job Summary: The Housing Stability Program Coordinator will implement and expand a program designed to reduce conflict between renters and housing providers. The program will serve tenant-landlord conflict in lease- and rent-related issues, and tenant-tenant disagreements, with the goal of stabilizing current tenancies, to help reduce evictions and homelessness in Eastern Washington.  

 

Primary Duties:  

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with housing providers, attorneys, rental assistance agencies, court staff, and social service organizations that provide help with housing issues maintaining sensitivity to cultural and equity considerations 

  • Promote early resolution and provide Conflict Resolution training to landlords and renters 

  • Help to design and provide renter readiness classes for tenants and prospective tenants 

  • Provide conflict coaching and conciliation, as necessary 

  • Coordinate on-site mediations for housing complexes 

  • Work with other staff on coordinated networking and outreach 

  • Maintain appropriate self-care 

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Passion for peaceful problem solving, community service, and homelessness prevention. 

  • Background related to Eastern Washington local/regional housing issues 

  • 36 to 40-hour Basic Mediation Training (can be acquired after hire)  

  • Advanced conflict resolution training (can be acquired after hire) 

  • Skill in teaching and public speaking 

  • Nonprofit outreach experience  

  • Ability to work in-person and possible hybrid 

  • Current driver license and access to an insured vehicle 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills  

  • Strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications and database use 

 

Ideal Qualifications:  

  • Mediator certification 

  • Background in conflict resolution (mediation, conciliation, facilitation) 

  • Multi- or bi-lingual fluency

Volunteer Mediators

All volunteer mediators complete, at minimum, a 40-hour, Basic Mediation Training course which is an extensive practicum and a rigorous evaluation. Mediators of family matters have received an additional 20-hour Family Mediation Training, and additional practicum activities.

 

Mediators are assigned on a rotating basis.  Many volunteer mediators have additional expertise in particular areas and can be called upon to mediate specific kinds of disputes. ​​
